ThinkTel’s carrier grade infrastructure delivers service to over 400 Canadian cities. Our network utilizes TDM transport in all centres with SIP delivered directly to customers and points to ensure the highest voice quality and reliability. ThinkTel is investing and expanding our network and we have the facilities to meet any customer over their existing connection or through a private network connection or in any one of our six data centres across Canada.
Core Switching Technology – Delivering Capacity Customers Can Count On!
ThinkTel utilizes the Metaswitch VP3510 network softswitch which provides a 1:1 ratio of digital signal processors to PSTN call paths. This means that we can delivery 100% of our network capacity using any one of the available compression codecs that we support. The Metaswitch also supports geographical diversity at the media gateway layer as well as at the signalling layer to ensure network resiliency and survivability.
Once converted to SIP, calls are transported over a combination of both private IP networks and the public Internet. ThinkTel’s strategy is to make the most use of existing network facilities and as such we are privately cross connected to most major Canadian IP network providers.
ThinkTel is also peered with no fewer than 4 tier one Internet backbones. Our preferred method to connect customers is to utilize a private IP connection as primary and provide redundancy and failover via public Internet when possible. However, any properly designed IP network configuration is supported as are multiple VPN methods or direct co-location of customer equipment at our data centre.

ThinkTel’s service level target is 99.999% network availability and in the event of a service outage that exceeds these targets, customers are provided with service credits proportional to the level of outage experienced.
